Pest and Temperature Issues Solved for Home in Mercer, WI

This home in Mercer, WI was first built in 1907. After owning this property since the 1990's, they've always noticed significant inssues with temperature and humidity levels i nthe home. After recently seeing mice in the home's crawl space, they homeowner reached out to us about our Dr. Energy Saver® service for crawl space encapsulation.

Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. DBS Foreman Orrin Sundberg and his prodution crew place a drainage layer and vapor barrier in the crawl space. This will prevent moisture as well as pests from entering the home via the crawl space.

Keeping your crawl space dry can also significantly reduce long-term damage to the wooden building material supporting the structure. From there, they applied closed-cell spray foam insulation to the rim joists where the crawl space was releasing cold air into the main level of the home.

The owner was happy with the work done, and how it resulted in a great improvement of this home's overall health.

Poplar, WI Homeowners Increase Year-Round Comfort with Attic Insulation

Owners of this Poplar, WI home wanted to make their home more comfortable. Built in the late 1960s, they remember it always having a few issues with holding heat during the winter months. Ice dams would form on the roof and recently, one of their gutters was damaged in the process. Looking for a permanent solution, they contacted DBS for a free, no-obligation estimate for the work.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home and provided an inspection and thorough estimate for the attic insulation project. To prevent any leaking from ice dams in the future, Henry suggested air sealing the attic floor and re-insulating it. DBS Foreman Nick Woods II lead the attic insulation crew. They added Tru-Soft cellulose to the attic after air sealing, to provide a solid radiant barrier. This will, in turn, prevent warm air from escaping from the living space through the attic. This insulation method also prevents the space from heating up too much during the summer months.

The homeowners were happy with the work our insulation crew did and now have a solid solution to stand up to cold Wisconsin winters.

Vacation Home Now Permanent Residence with Dr. Energy Saver® Insulation

Townhome owners in Duluth, MN are in the process of permanently re-locating to Duluth year-round but noticed the first winter that the space wasn't properly insulated. Specifically, their lower level was much colder than the upper level. Looking for year-round comfort, they contacted DBS for a permanent solution.

Our Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the insulation work. Because the space shares walls with another unit, our production crew drilled holes into the drywall and dense-packed it with our ultra-dense Tru-Soft™ cellulose. This insulation is fire-resistant and has an R-value much higher than fiberglass, and most rigid foam insulations. We also seal the gaps and cracks in the utility room and side of the home that is exposed to the elements.

These homeowners can now equipped to living in Duluth year-round and maintaining a high level of comfort!

Musty Crawlspace Sealed in Duluth, MN

Duluth, MN homeowners wanted to seal their dirt crawl space. It had very little insulation, causing cold conditions for the room above it. But their biggest issues was the musty smell. It was present year-round in their living space. Concerned about health implications of smelling mold, they contacted DBS for a permanent solution.

Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer is an expert in energy-saving solutions and visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. After a thorough inspection, Henry drafted a custom-plan to seal this dirt crawl space and protect the home above it.

Foreman Orrin Sundberg and his production crew installed drainage matting and CleanSpace® vapor barrier. The drainage matting helps water properly drain from the space. In turn, the vapor barrier prevents condensation in the wet dirt from evaporating into the air and traveling up into the living space.

Our crew finished the encapsulation job by using spray foam to seal and insulate the crawl space rim joists. This will prevent cold air from entering the crawl space and cooling the living space above it.

The homeowner was happy with the work done, and now has a solid solution to protect their home year-round.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the work. Closed-cell spray foam is a permanent solution for stopping outdoor air from entering a home and works great in Crawl Spaces like this one. Each home is different, so what works well in your neighbors home may be a different solution than yours.

DBS Foreman Nick Woods and his production team worked hard to install the insulation.

Drafty Cabin in Ely, MN Insulated to Save Energy and Stop Ice Dams

This Ely, MN cabin was drafty during the winter and humid during the summer. The owners knew they needed to do something to improve the cabin's energy efficiency and get rid of pesky ice dams during the winter months.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the cabin and provided a thorough inspection, including the attic and crawl space. Henry designed an insulation project that would prevent energy loss in the form of the stack effect. The stack effect is essentially the process of outside air entering your home via your basement or crawl space, in this case, traveling through your home and leaking back outside via your attic. This free flow of air means the cabin was working hard to keep itself warm, driving energy bills up and creating ice dams.

DBS Foreman Orrin Sundberg led this insulation project of this Ely, MN cabin. After insulating the crawl space rim joists with spray foam, our insulation crew moved into the attic. They removed the existing batting insulation and air-sealed the space with an inch of closed-cell spray foam. From there, they applied 18 inches of Tru-Soft™ cellulose. They also installed Tru-Soft™ in the attic's hard-to-reach vaulted ceiling using a technique called dense packing, to provide a consistent radiant barrier.

The insulation installed in the attic and crawl space will prevent the stack effect from reoccurring, resulting in less money spent on propane. You'll see in the before and after photos the difference in ice dam build-up from 1 year to the next.

The homeowners were happy with the work our insulation crew did and now have a solid solution to stand up to cold Minnesota winters.

This Holyoke, MN home was built in the year 2000. They contacted us specifically looking for solutions to preventing ice dams in their home.

Our Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the insulation project. From there, they applied 1 inch of spray foam to the roof deck. They then used our TruSoft™ cellulose, covering the roof deck in 18-inches of soft, yet dense insulation. TruSoft™ has a higher R-value than fiberglass and other cellulose materials, perfect for use in our northern climate. Tru-Soft™ cellulose is extra dense and made from recycled news paper. Owners of this 1950's cabin in Chetek, WI contacted DBS for some professional help with their crawl space. The cabin had an addition built in 2006, creating some uneven floors on the main level of the cabin. Wanting this to become a 4-season retreat for their family to enjoy, they were also interested in crawl space encapsulation and insulation.

Our team installed a total of 11 SmartJack® telescoping vertical beams beneath the new support beam and beneath the cabin's existing supports.

After the crawl space foundation repair was complete, our team began the crawl space encapsulation work. DBS Foreman Nick Woods II lead his crew in the installation of a total encapsulation system: a layer of drainage matting applied directly to the crawl space floor, then a layer of TerraBlock™ insulation, and finally a vapor barrier to seal the space. They also applied spray foam to the rim joists to property seal the space from cold air.

This family now has peace of mind that their cabin will stand up to Wisconsin winter temperatures.
