Helical Deck Piers
Decks supported by shallow footings or concrete pads are vulnerable to settlement, frost heave, and seasonal movement. DBS Repair installs Helical Deck Piers designed to anchor below the frost line into stable soil, providing permanent support for decks and outdoor structures. Our engineered pier systems help prevent shifting, settling, and costly structural damage while improving the long-term stability and safety of your deck.
Permanent Deck Stability Anchored Below Frost Depth
Standard deck footings are poured at shallow depths and are highly susceptible to frost heave in Minnesota and Wisconsin. As soil freezes and expands each winter, shallow footings push upward, tilting decks, separating ledger boards, and cracking attached structures.
Helical deck support piers are steel screw-type piers that are torqued deep into the soil below the frost line, typically 5 to 7 feet or more depending on soil conditions. Once anchored below the freeze zone, the pier is not affected by seasonal ground movement.
be tightened to gradually straighten walls back toward their original position.
A steel bracket is connected to the pier head and to the deck post, transferring the deck load directly to stable deep soil. The result is a level, stable deck that does not move seasonally.

Helical Piers vs Shallow Concrete Footings
The table below shows why standard concrete footings consistently fail in freeze-thaw climates and how helical piers address each failure point.
Standard concrete footing
Shallow Footing
Poured at or above frost line. Susceptible to heaving each winter. Often cracks over time. Does not anchor to stable soil. Requires replacement every 10 to 20 years in harsh climates. Code minimum in many areas but inadequate for MN/WI winters.

Helical Deck Pier
Installed below frost line to stable load-bearing soil. Not affected by seasonal freeze-thaw cycles. Provides consistent support year over year. Backed by 25-year warranty. One-time installation with no ongoing replacement needed.
Helical Deck Pier Installation:
What to Expect
1.
Free on-site inspection and estimate
A DBS specialist assesses your deck structure, post locations, existing footings, and soil conditions. Pier depth and quantity are determined and presented in a written proposal.
2.
Pier installation
Each helical pier is torqued into the ground at the deck post location using a hydraulic drive head. Installation is monitored continuously with torque readings confirming load capacity.
3.
Bracket attachment
A steel bracket is secured to the pier head and connected to the deck post, transferring the deck load directly to the pier.
4.
Leveling and finishing
Post heights are set and any deck leveling needed is performed. Old shallow footings are removed or left in place depending on configuration.
5.
Documentation and warranty
Installation is documented, torque logs are recorded, and your 25-year warranty is issued at project completion.

How stable is your foundation?
Why Helical Deck Piers Are the Right Choice in Minnesota and Wisconsin
No Concrete Pours Required
Helical piers are driven — not poured. No concrete curing time, no mixing, no forms. Installation is complete in a single visit in most cases.
Immediate Load Bearing
Piers can be loaded immediately after installation. No waiting for concrete to cure before connecting and loading the deck structure.
Verified Capacity
Torque monitoring during installation provides real-time confirmation of load capacity. No guessing on pier depth or soil engagement.
Frost Immune
Piers anchor well below the Minnesota frost depth. Seasonal freeze-thaw cycles do not affect the pier or the deck structure above it.
Works on New and Existing Decks
Helical deck piers can be installed under existing decks without full demolition, or specified for new deck construction in place of standard footings.
25-Year Warranty
All helical deck pier installations are backed by a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty plus DBS’s in-house performance warranty on all labor.
