Facing the challenges of uneven floors and high humidity in their McGregor, MN cabin, the homeowner reached out to our team at DBS for a comprehensive solution. As shown in the before photo, the crawl space beneath the cabin was in desperate need of stabilization and moisture control. The unaddressed issues were causing the floors above to sag and become unstable, while the excessive humidity left the home vulnerable to potential mold and moisture damage.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, our team was ready to step in with the expertise needed to address both the structural and environmental concerns. First, we stabilized the crawl space with our SmartJack® system, which provides adjustable, reliable support to lift and level the floors above. This solution immediately alleviated the uneven floor issues, ensuring a more secure and stable living environment.
Next, we tackled the humidity problem head-on with our CleanSpace® vapor barrier system, which was carefully installed to seal off the crawl space and prevent moisture from entering. The CleanSpace® system is specifically designed to keep out water vapor, dirt, and debris, while maintaining a dry and controlled environment beneath the home.
To address ongoing moisture concerns, we installed the SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier, a powerful unit designed to keep humidity levels low and prevent the growth of mold and mildew. The SaniDry™ Sedona ensures continuous air circulation and moisture control, keeping the crawl space dry and preventing the buildup of harmful mold spores.
Additionally, we incorporated the SmartDrain® system to efficiently manage water drainage, ensuring that any excess water is directed away from the crawl space to prevent future flooding or pooling.
To complete the project and further protect the crawl space from mold and microbial growth, we applied MoldX2 Botanical™ spray foam, which serves as a natural and effective barrier against mold, helping to maintain a healthy environment.
In the after photo, you can clearly see the transformation. The crawl space is now fully encapsulated and sealed, with the floors above noticeably more stable. The reduction in humidity will also protect the cabin from long-term moisture damage, mold, and other environmental concerns. This comprehensive solution not only addressed the immediate issues but also ensured the lasting durability and comfort of the cabin for years to come.
This project stands as a testament to our commitment to providing high-quality, long-term solutions for homeowners. By choosing DBS, the homeowner can now enjoy peace of mind, knowing their cabin is secure, dry, and free from the risks of moisture and structural instability.
Crawl Spaces: you won’t believe what we find under homes!
Moisture & Mold in Minnesota Crawl Spaces Can Damage Your Home Fast
Across Duluth, St. Louis County, St. Cloud, Stearns County, Sherburne County, Benton County, Brainerd, Baxter, Crow Wing County, and Cass County, vented crawl spaces are built to struggle with snowmelt, damp soil, summer humidity, and freeze-thaw cycles. When warm, humid air meets cooler surfaces underground, condensation forms, and mold follows. That mold doesn’t stay put.
Damp Minnesota Crawl Spaces Attract Pests, Rodents, and Wood-Damaging Insects
Moisture-damaged wood doesn’t just rot, it attracts pests that cause their own wave of destruction. From lake-area cabins in Cass and Crow Wing County to year-round homes in Duluth, St. Cloud, Elk River, and Sauk Rapids, dark and damp crawl spaces can become ideal conditions for rodents, carpenter ants, and wood-damaging insects.
Your Minnesota Crawl Space Could Be Costing You 25–40% More on Energy Bills
An unencapsulated crawl space is one of the biggest sources of energy loss in a Minnesota home. Whether it’s subzero winter air in Duluth and Brainerd or summer humidity in St. Cloud and Sherburne County, your HVAC system pays the price, and so do you.
