This Duluth, MN homeowner called DBS to set up a free, no-obligation estimate for her crawl space concerns. Her home had started to show signs that something was going wrong under her home. She noticed that her floors started to sag, as well as excess moisture in her living spaces. Design Specialist, Henrik Makitalo visited this home and upon his inspection concluded that the home should have the crawl space encapsulated as well as the use of our patented SmartJacks to stabilize the home's sagging support beams. Foreman, Kevin Steffy and his crew were tasked with the installation of SmartJacks and our CleanSpace crawlspace encapsulation material. They were able to achieve the desired results, and the homeowner was happy with the results.
This customer was no stranger to DBS, as we had installed a new support beam and SmartJacks in their basement last year. The homeowner was ready to move on to phase two of their basement upgrade and install an egress window. Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo stopped out to see the homeowner and measured for the installation of an egress window. Forman, Kevin Steffy and his crew installed the window system and left the customer feeling happy as they were one step closer to completing their basement!
This Duluth resident had cracks in their walls that were allowing water to seep into the basement. With the addition of a new drain tile and our CleanSpace wall matting we direct water down the wall and eventually into the sump pump where it is extracted from the home. This method provides the customer with a clean white wall and drains water out of the basement that could have otherwise caused further moisture or even flooding. In addition to the waterproofing, the black CarbonArmor strap seen on the right side of the wall is put in place to maintain the wall and prevent it from shifting further in the future. The combination of these options allows us the opportunity to stabilize the wall while effectively waterproofing the affected area.

Kris W. was growing worried about the bowing walls in her basement. She was experiencing stair stepping cracks as well as a straight line bow all the way across her basement wall. Some of the cracks were an inch wide. After doing some on-line research she found DBS Residential Solutions. Kris called them up and scheduled an appointment that same day.
After working out a couple of different proposals, Kris found the one that worked best with her plans for her basement and fixing her problem. DBS Residential Solutions installed PowerBraces and joist reinforcements across two of her basement walls.
Kris now has the peace of mind that those walls will no longer be moving in on her and her foundation is stable once again. DBS Residential Solutions is glad they could help one more person enjoy their home once again!
We had received a call from a homeowner in Biwabik, MN who was noticing leaks in their basement and cracks all over the place in their basement. The homeowner knew they had clay around their home and understood they would need a serious solution to the problems they faced rather than a temporary fix.
We are never happy to hear about homeowners facing problems, but we do like knowing that we can definitely help homeowners get peace of mind and become more comfortable in their home when they're facing problems like this. We sent our experienced Basement Specialist Rich to assess the situation and propose a permanent solution. Rich identified issues with the foundation and where the water was entering the home. Before proposing a solution he also took into consideration what outcome the homeowner was looking for and what constraints the home and property might have on a solution. In the end, it was determined that PowerBraces for foundation support and a new drain tile with CleanSpace wall matting would be most appropriate for the situation. The PowerBraces provide ample support for the wall and many homeowners enjoy the fact that they can be installed without the need for an external dig-up around the outside of the home. Meanwhile the new drain tile with wall matting helps to direct incoming water into a sump pump and away from the home. With our unique system we are able to offer a TripleSafe Sump Pump which works well with our system to drive water away from the home with additional back up pumps in the case of excess incoming water or power outage.
Our foremen make sure to stay in communication with the homeowner throughout the project to ensure everything is being completed in accordance with their wishes and expectations. In the end, we were able to provide this homeowner with peace of mind in the form of a waterproofed basement with structurally sound walls.
When we warn our customers about the dangers of the cracks they see forming in their foundations there are several different problems we are trying to help prevent from happening to them. We have seen blocks or pieces fall apart from the foundation. Foundations that sink so far into the ground the soil outside the home is visible from the basement, and foundation walls that have collapsed completely because nothing was done after the warning signs were observed. Thankfully, in this situation, the foundation wall had not collapsed completely, but what did happen was similarly concerning. The conditions of the soil underneath one section of this home had caused a large corner of the foundation to sink into the ground which created a gap in the foundation several inches wide. Gaps in the foundation like this can make the home less efficient by allowing unconditioned air into the home and by allowing harmful gasses like Radon to easily enter the home. The homeowner understood they were facing a serious issue and wanted to do their homework before committing to a solution. He researched these types of issues and after dismissing several temporary fixes, like patching the wall, he understood he would need to address the underlying problem, the soil, if he wanted to fix it once and be done worrying about it. He found out about the permanent solutions that DBS Residential Solutions installs in their customer's homes and immediately signed up for a free estimate. After confirming with our Foundation Repair Specialist that the Push Piers would be the optimal solution for this scenario he agreed to have our crew come out to his home to install our solution. With just a little excavation our crew exposed the base of the foundation and drove our piers deep down into the earth beside the foundation. The push piers joined the base of the foundation and were adjusted to provide the necessary support for this home without an issue. This foundation is now permanently supported and DBS has made another family home a bit safer.
When this homeowner first met our Specialist Henrik he mentioned to Henrik that he had a problem with several sections of his concrete driveway sinking into the ground. This had caused significant differences between adjoining slabs of concrete. He wanted the problem fixed and knew Henrik would give him an exact estimate on what it would take to fix the issue. After seeing other examples of the PolyLevel system being used for several similar projects that DBS had done the homeowner was ready to become a customer of DBS. Before long, the PolyLevel crew at DBS was at this customer's home making the adjustments necessary to provide a consistent level driveway to the customer. With this project now complete DBS has created another happy customer and made another small improvement to the Duluth community.
The owner of this Iron, MN home noticed their driveway had begun to sink over time. Knowing that this could cause a potential accident, he decided it was time to find someone to fix it. Upon some research, he learned of the possible solutions DBS had to fix his sinking driveway. He quickly gave our office a call and set up an appointment to have a system design specialist make a trip out to the home for a free no obligation estimate. During the inspection, the homeowner was able to ask the specialist all the questions he had. Once all concerns were addressed, a date was set to have DBS’ installation team come and solve the problem. A mudjacking technique was used and produced a leveled cement slab. This homeowner could rest easy now knowing that his concrete slab was no longer a safety hazard. In a follow-up call a few years after the project was complete, the homeowner expressed that the solution had stood the test of time and he was very impressed. DBS is proud to provide a solution so our customer no longer has to worry about people tripping or damaging vehicles from the uneven concrete.
Selling a home can be a stressful time! This Duluth, MN homeowner was feeling the pressure to get his home fixed up to the buyer's expectation. During the home's inspection, the inspector pointed out signs of some foundation failure on one of the basements foundation walls. The homeowner knew he had to act quickly to ensure the potential buyer wouldn't walk away from their offer. So the decision was made to call the experts at DBS. The homeowner first spoke to Emily Klinchelo, the appointment center representative to schedule a time for an inspection by one of the specialists. Royce Bunn, system design specialist, made the visit to the home and gave the homeowner a quality solution to the foundation problem. Since there was a sensitive time frame for this particular project, DBS was able to get the job scheduled quickly. Foreman, Casey Healy, and his crew were able to complete the assigned work in an efficient amount of time. We are proud to report that the sale of this home went through and the old homeowner was happy to leave the new homeowners with a safer home. The new homeowners were happy that the warranty DBS offers for their products were transferred over to them at the closing of their new home.
DBS' Appointment Center Representative, Emily Kinchloe, was able to help set up an appointment for a free, no-obligation estimate for this Duluth, MN homeowner. Shortly after, Henrick Makitalo, a system design specialist, made the trip out to evaluate the home. Upon inspection, he found that the foundation walls were bowing and needed to have additional support added to prevent further damage. His proposal included the installation of twenty PowerBraces. These PowerBraces were then installed by Foreman, Casey Healy, and his crew. The customer was so pleased with the quality of work performed by DBS, they want to continue to work on improving their basement. In the next year, the homeowners are looking to finish off their basement. Knowing that the foundation walls are permanently stabilized, they want to finish the basement so they can have more usable space in their home. DBS is on the top of their list for the next project!
This Chisholm, MN customer saw our commercial on TV and called to set up a free estimate with our design specialist. Upon inspection, our specialist recorded that the concrete slab connected to the garage had sunk almost four inches. This was a great example of how our PolyLevel concrete leveling and lifting system could raise the existing slab. The customer was sick and tired of running over the bump on the way to the garage. There was also concern that the sunken slab would be a tripping hazard.
This Aurora, MN business called the experts at DBS to come out and give a free estimate on their sidewalks. The customer was worried that their uneven walkways would cause a client to trip. These types of tripping hazards can be very concerning to a business owner. The Design Specialist from DBS was able to give this business an estimate to lift and level their sidewalks.
This customer called with the inquiry to repair the concrete in their garage. The clients had lived in their home for years, looking to fix the ground in their garage that was approximately a foot distance unlevel, possibly from an old radiator or steam heating equipment hidden beneath the surface. By calling DBS, we were able to schedule an appointment and a solution for a safe, level surfaced garage.
We were able to provide the family with lifting and garage leveling services, while they also later decided to waterproof their home.
The homeowner was very happy with the work DBS had done, and our team is always happy to leave our homeowners in safe, comfortable, living spaces! DBS provides solutions and results to these common household problems.
A homeowner in Gilbert, MN reached out to DBS regarding a foundation problem. Their log cabin needed to be leveled out as the foundation was starting to settle. The cabin was built on concrete block, and the slab had to be supported by something more than just the soil. DBS sent out a Design Specialist to inspect the cabin and provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the owner. The solution to the settling log cabin was to install the Supportworks Push Pier system. The solution to the settling log cabin would be to install the Slab Pier System. These are specially designed Galvanized Steel piers that can stabilize and restore concrete slabs. They are driven deep into the earth, and bypass soil that is not fit to support the weight of a slab. This provides the concrete to be supported by strong, competent earth, and also the opportunity to be lifted back to the original position. The Supportworks Slab Pier System is a trustworthy solution to fixing a settling foundation, and can provide a more comfortable environment for your home!
An individual in Floodwood, MN called DBS regarding a large concrete repair project. This was not just one house needing the service, but instead the city of Floodwood needing their sidewalks to be leveled. This is an issue that will always arise with concrete slabs. Over time, old concrete will start to crack and bring in unwanted material (soil, gas, etc.). This material will then cause the slabs to shift out of place and will end up needing to be reapired to ensure safety. In this case, Design Specialist Royce Bunn went out to Floodwood to provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the concrete repair service. Instead of traditional mud jacking, it was proposed that PolyLevel® could get the job done. This is a polymer foam injection that is planted beneath the concrete slab. Once injected, the foam quickly expands below the surface and forces the concrete to rise up and level out. This is a fast and efficient solution to lifting concrete slabs, and will help keep concrete surfaces safer for all individuals.
A homeowner in Britt, MN reached out to DBS with a concern over their crawl space area. During the humid season, the crawl space would have moisture seeping through it, causing a moldy smell which would spread throughout the home. This can be a big issue, because not only does it smell bad, but mold also carries health concerns. During wet and warm seasons, this problem constantly appears.
A Design Specialist went out to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the service. It was proposed that the small crawl space area would need the installation of the SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. This product works wonders, and is the most efficient, high-performance dehumidifier there is. It's small, compact size makes it a good fit for even the smallest of spaces, and is able to move over 300 cubic feet of dry air every minute. These are just a few of the great features of the SaniDry™. With the assistance of DBS and this product, any hot or humid area within a home can become a more dry and comfortable environment!
A home in Makinen, MN had an issue with the foundation. The basement wall had started to cave in and this would cause water to leak slowly in from the outside. This can be a major problem that has lasting effects from both the bowing wall and leaking water damage. A proper solution was much needed for the homeowner. They were able to reach DBS and have a Design Specialist come out to provide a free, no-obligation for the service. It was concluded that the foundation wall would need the installation of the GeoLock® Wall Anchor System. This service is comprised of galvanized steel earth anchors that are embedded into undisturbed soil on the outside of a foundation wall. The anchor is then attached to one end of a steel rod which connects with another anchor installed on the interior portion of the wall. Once the ground is backfilled, it creates a force that helps pull the wall and stabilizes it from any futher bowing movements. The GeoLock® Wall Anchor System is a certified solution to foundation problems, and can prevent future issues you may find with damaged walls.
A homeowner in Meadowlands, MN reached out to DBS regarding a common issue amongst older basements. They reported one side of their foundation wall was beginning to bow from the bottom up. It was apparent that the soil on the exterior part of the wall was settling quite a bit, and forcing the wall to cave in. The issue needed to be resolved in order to prevent further damages.
DBS sent out a Design Specialist to inspect the area and provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the services. It was concluded that the foundation wall would need to have GeoLock® installed to help give the wall support and prevent it from moving in any further. The GeoLock® Wall Anchor System is comprised of galvanized steel earth anchors that are embedded into undisturbed soil outside of the wall, then attached to a steel rod that connects with another anchor on the interior portion of the wall. Once the ground is filled back in, the soil creates a pulling force which stabilizes the wall, and can even move it back to its original position. This service can support any damaged foundation wall, and will help prevent further issues in the long run.
A homeowner in Alborn, MN was experiencing a common foundation problem found in older basements. The foundation walls had started cracking, and was causing a shift in the wall, which can be troublesome for the home. In need of a solution, the homeowner reached out to DBS to try and find a fix to their foundation problem. DBS sent out a Design Specialist to inspect the area and provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the wall project. It was concluded that the area would need to have the PowerBrace™ Wall Bracing System installed to ensure proper wall support. However, there was a unique catch to this project. One area of the wall was cracking below the staircase, and stood only about 4 feet high. This meant that the crew would have to cut the PowerBrace™ in half, and create an "H" design with a separate brace in order to fit in the area. A photo of how exactly the design looked will be attached. Though it took some extra time, the crew was able to follow through with the installation, and the results turned out great. With the help of DBS, this homeowner can now enjoy a more safe and comfortable environment in their basement!
In Saginaw, MN, a homeowner was experiencing troubles with their crawl space. The area was dirty, cold, and overall irritating. Certain parts of the crawl space would allow air to leak through in to the home, and as you can imagine, this became very cold and took a lot of energy to combat. Aside from that, the crawl space would also become quite humid in the warm months, and the moisture would cause a foul moldy smell to run through the inside. In need of a solution, they reached out to DBS. After thorough inspection, it was concluded that the crawl space would need to be fully encapsulated with CleanSpace® vapor barrier in order to properly insulate the area, and to keep it waterproof as well. Cleanspace® is 100% waterproof plastic barrier that is perfect for unfinished basements and crawl space areas. This project turned out to be a great success, and the homeowner can now enjoy a more comfortable living environment.
In Duluth, MN, a homeowner was experiencing weakened structural support along their basement and garage walls. The walls needed proper stabilization in order to maintain form, and to prevent future damage to the home. In need of a solution, the homeowner reached out to DBS, and was able to have a Design Specialist come out and provide a free-no obligation estimate for the foundation service. It was decided that the home would need a considerable amount of CarbonArmor® units installed, along with two PowerBrace™ units, to effectively maintain these walls. These products work in similar ways. Both are installed vertically along a foundation wall, and provided supportive strength to the inside of the wall to ensure stability. The products are tough, powerful, and will get the job done. With the help of DBS, the homeowner can now experience a more comfortable basement and garage area.
DBS received a call that a home in Babbitt, MN knew they were having trouble with their foundation, but they didn’t know what was wrong with it. We booked a free, no-obligation visit to the home with a design specialist to take a closer look at the problem. The basement in the home had a bowing wall, that had been leaning and looked unsupported. The walls were leaning and it would need to be straightened overtime, also stabilizing the walls to make sure the home was safe for the family.
There was a large crack in the concrete wall that may have contributed to the unsupported basement foundation, but DBS came up with a proposal to fix all the problems in the home. We recommended that the family has PowerBrace™ Wall Bracing System installed in the home to make sure the walls are fully supported into the future, this would also help to straighten the walls over time, as the walls would slowly take the straight shape of the brace system. If your home has leaning walls, cracks, or you’re noticing foundation problems, call DBS to take a closer look!
A homeowner in Canyon, MN, reached out to DBS regarding the crawl space of their home. the crawl space was wide open, and very dirty. The openness allows for cold air to access the home, and well as water and moisture during warm seasons. The homeowner was hoping to have the entire area sealed to prevent any further issues. After reaching DBS, a Design Specialist went to inspect the home and provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the service. It was decided that the crawl space would need to be encapsulated with CleanSpace®, a vapor barrier that covers the entirety of the crawl space. Along with that, a small portion of spray foam insulation would be added as well. The CleanSpace® covering holds back water vapor and provides a cleaner look and feel to the area it is installed within. The results of the project turned out great, and the homeowner can now enjoy a more comfortable crawl space, and overall home environment, for years to come.
Homeowners in Hoyt Lakes, MN called DBS with a concern for the concrete in their garage. The cracking in the concrete had gradually gotten worse and throughout the winter, water had also become a problem in this area. The cracking had caused the water to pool and collect in the middle. DBS sent our design specialist, Henrick Makitalo to the home to create a solution for the problem. When Henrick looked into the area, he came up with a proposal quickly, he saw that the homeowners needed installation of our PolyLevel® service to bring the concrete back to its original place. We would lift and level the concrete, also putting PolyLevel® into the center of the garage to prevent pooling of water. Below is a photo of the concrete prior to production, if this looks like a problem in your house, call DBS for a free, no-obligation estimate!
A cabin in Makinen, MN needed maintenance to make sure the home was stable. DBS sent a design specialist to see what work was needed to create a safe environment in the home. DBS concluded that we needed to remove the existing structure of the home and install our own pier system into the foundation, the goal being to restore the sinking floors, and home back to its original placement. Our installation works to make sure all our clients live in safe, stable homes and cabins, DBS installed helical pier stabilization system and lifted the foundation for our clients. We’ve included a pre-production photo of the cabin that needed to be repaired. In the photos, you can see the way that the flooring is sagging beneath the foundation.
DBS worked on a home that was having trouble with water damage and unstable floors in their basement. The basement required a new, TripleSafe™ pump system to manage the water and DBS also installed a back-up pump system to ensure the home stays dry. We put a waterproofing system around the perimeter of the basement to keep the water out of the home. We also installed 4 inches of concrete over the existing concrete to create a stable environment without demolition of the house. The concrete slab was stabilized using PolyLevel® and NexusPro™ joint sealant before adding the drainage system to the home. This will ensure the home stays dry and the floors are stabilized to create a safe environment. Below are before and after pictures of the concrete laid in the basement.
A homeowner in Orr, MN reached out to DBS with the concern for one of his bowing walls in the basement. The project first required wall stabilization due to several cracks within the walls. DBS works to stabilize the home by adding PowerBrace™ Wall Bracing System to the perimeter of the basement. The next step to stabilize is to tighten and straighten the walls back to its original position. The last step is to install joist reinforcement in any needed areas, beyond the support of the PowerBrace™ Wall Support System. We’ve included a photo prior to production of the crack on the outside and outside of the basement wall. If this looks similar to a problem in your home, give DBS a call for a free, no-obligation estimate today!
The Park Point area in Duluth, MN is a hot spot for basement water issues in the area, and DBS has provided many services there for several years. One particular homeowner reached out to DBS regarding the specially designed Park Point Waterproofing System. In the fall of 2018, a series of storms hit the Duluth area, and heavily effected Park Point and the homes lakeside. DBS set up a strategic system that will benefit the Park Point homes in need of waterproofing. One big component calls for raising the basement flooring a substantial amount by pouring new concrete on top of the existing material. That is exactly what the crew provided for this home, as shown in the photo attached. The crew laid a dimple draignage matting above the original floor for water and mold prevention, then proceeded to pour the fresh concrete on top of these layers. Aside from the new concrete, there are several other products that are recommended for the waterproofing system for Park Point. This can include: TripleSafe™ or SuperSump®, WaterGuard®, and SaniDry®. All are fantastic products, and ideal for any basement waterproofing system.
