Could A Few Air Leaks Can Be Causing Your Discomfort?

See the wires coming out of the large hole in the floor? Add this one hole with others and you have a large amount of air loss! When someone mentions insulation to you, what do you think of first? The attic? That used to be my first thought. It is true that if your attic is not properly insulated that you will be able to tell both in the comfort levels in your home and in your energy bill prices.

What about air sealing though, do we ever consider its value? I had never thought of it before I started looking into properly insulated homes. This summer, wouldn't it be great to turn on the ac and immediately feel the difference, then hear it shut off and stay off because your home is maintaining its cool temperature? This is all possible!!

Air Seal Before Insulating: Cool Home This Summer

Air sealing is not really insulation, but it goes hand in hand and is actually just as important! If your home is well insulated but is not air sealed at all, you will have a problem. The air will just pass through the insulation and out of the home. This means you run your air conditioner and the air just escapes leaving your home hot!

Air sealing is the process of sealing all the little holes in your house, you know the ones around your light switches and outlet boxes, the ones around your plumbing and chimney, and any other random holes you may have throughout your house. In many cases, homes are not properly air sealed before the insulation has been installed, which means the whole home is uncomfortable and expensive to heat or cool because the previous company forgot to air seal!

No Wonder You're Hot and Still Paying a Bundle!

If your home has no air sealing at all (every house has these holes so we will assume yours does too) the combined air loss amounts would be somewhere in the same area as if you left a window wide open all day, every day. Can you imagine trying to heat up, or cool down your house with all this air movement? No wonder energy bills are so high and you're still uncomfortable!
