DBS Repair Restores Safety and Stability at Girl Scout Camp in Duluth, MN

When a Girl Scout camp in Duluth, MN, reached out to DBS Repair, their main concern was the safety and stability of one of their cabins. The structure showed signs of

significant foundation settlement, including uneven floors and compromised support beams. During winter, these issues also led to frozen pipes, making the cabin unusable for campers and staff.

To restore the cabin’s safety and functionality, Design Specialist Jake Gilmer conducted a full inspection. His evaluation confirmed that unstable soil beneath the foundation had caused movement and deterioration over time.

Jake developed a two-part stabilization plan using Helical Piers and the SmartJack® System, both designed to provide permanent structural support. Installers Nate and Justin led the installation process, starting with Helical Piers that were driven deep into load-bearing soil layers to permanently stabilize the cabin’s foundation and prevent future settlement.

Once the foundation was secure, the team installed the SmartJack® System in the crawl space. These galvanized steel columns were precisely adjusted to lift and level the interior floors, ensuring the structure was safe, level, and supported for years to come.

The completed project not only restored the foundation’s integrity but also helped prevent frozen pipes in the winter, allowing the camp to once again use the cabin safely year-round.
