Proudly serving Minnesota and Wisconsin - including Duluth, Minneapolis, Eau Claire and nearby areas
This cabin in Canyon, MN was only used during the summer months. The owners were planning to transition to living there year-round, but knew they would need to winterize the cabin. Looking for a permanent solution to make their home more comfortable year-round, they reached out to DBS for a permanent solution.
Our Service Manager Jacob Nustad-Peluso was the Design Specialist for this project. He visited the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate, inspecting the cabin's attic and crawl space. After inspecting the property and conducting an energy audit, it was determined that air sealing and blown-in insulation were necessary to effectively winterize the cabin.
DBS Foreman Nick Woods II and his crew performed the work crawl space air sealing and installed attic insulation. Our production crew first removed the existing fiberglass insulation and sealed the gaps in building material and spaces surrounding the attic ducts with a layer of closed-cell spray foam. From there, they blew-in a heavy layer of our TruSoft™ cellulose into the space. TruSoft™ has a higher R-value than fiberglass and other cellulose materials and will work wonders to protect the space.
For the crawl space, our team removed debris, and applied a MoldX2 Botanical™ to the moldy wooden support beams. From there, they used SilverGlo™ insulation on the crawl space foundation walls, and spray foam to seal the rim joists.
Sealing and insulating the crawl space and attic was key to prevent warm air from escaping the home, and improves the overall energy-efficiency and health of the space.
