He is excited about using his existing skillset to make homes healthy, safe and comfortable. Nick is committed to learning how to provide the highest quality work and the best service for each job. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with family, firing up the grill, hiking, and fishing.

    The owner of this cabin in Stone Lake, WI was having issues keeping it warm in the wintertime. They were unable to use the cabin in the winter and looking for a solution, they reached out to DBS.

    Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer went to the home to conduct a free no-obligation estimate for the owner. After a thorough inspection, Henry informed the owner that DBS could install insulation solutions in both the attic and crawlspace that would solve their issues.

    Foreman Nicholas Woods II led the installation for this project with help from a crew. Together they encapsulated the crawlspace with 3 layers of insulation. The first layer installed was drainage matting to assist the flow of water. On top of the matting, panels of TerraBlock™ foam insulation were installed to protect the space against frost. Finally, a layer of CleanSpace® was applied to complete the encapsulation process. In the attic, the crew removed all of the old batting insulation and sprayed polyurethane foam inside the knee walls of the attic to complete the air sealing process. They also blew in 17 inches of Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation to properly insulate the attic floor. 

    Now that the home has been properly insulated, the homeowner will experience a warmer cabin without paying more for heating, and will finally be able to relax comfortably all year round.

    Design Specialist Austin Burley ran the no-obligation estimate for the owners. Upon completion of a thorough interview, Austin informed the owners about the insulation services that DBS could install to fix their issues.

    Foreman Nick Woods II led the installation of this project. With assistance from a crew, they installed Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation in the attic and in another area of a house with a cathedral-style ceiling. They sealed the basement ceiling with polyurethane spray foam to properly air-seal the space. The crew also applied spray foam to the attic before blowing in Tru-Soft™. The crawl space underneath the cabin will also be properly insulated in the future with our 3-layer crawl space encapsulation process.

    Now that the home has been properly insulated, the owners will be able to enjoy their new cabin year-round and begin renovating the inside to create an even comfier space for their family.

Together they drilled holes in each bay of the ceiling to dense-pack blown-in Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation as the space in between the ceiling and roof was inaccessible. Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation is more efficient than fiber-glass because it retains heat better and is also treated in a borate solution to prevent pests and acts as a fire-retardant. To finish the job the team sealed off each injection site with ZypFoam™ to completely air seal the space.

    Now that the home has been properly insulated, the homeowners can relax comfortably as they experience lower energy bills and a warmer household.

He and his team completely removed the debris and excavated dirt beneath the space and added some gravel back to encourage better drainage in the space. From there, they installed our 3-layer system for crawl space encapsulation. First, drainage matting to eliminate moisture buildup, TerraBlock™ crawl space insulation, and CleanSpace® vapor barrier. These three products work together to fully protect the crawl space and condition spaces around them from the effects of cold air and moisture. 

    To correct the structural issues, they installed 26 total SmartJack® support beams in order to restore the home to a level position.

    From there, DBS Foreman Nick Woods II and his insulation crew sealed the crawl space vertical walls, from the floor to the rim joists with closed cell spray foam. This will stop airflow and prevent moisture from entering the space.

Together they air-sealed every gap in the attic with ZypFoam™ where air could leak from such as floorboards, light fixtures, and the entrance hatch. Then a layer of spray foam was sprayed onto the flooring to completely seal the flooring off before they covered the attic in 17" of blown-in Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation. A benefit of insulation made from cellulose is that it is saturated with a borate solution for fire retardancy and also makes it resistant to mold and insects.

    Now that the attic has been properly insulated, the homeowners will be able to relax comfortably as their homes will feel warmer while their energy bills decrease.
