This church in Hibbing, MN had water issues in the lower level. Water leaking in the basement was producing musty smells that made the space unusable for the congregation members.
DBS Design Specialist Nathan Schroeder visited the building to provide a thorough inspection. It was determined that drain tile would be installed as well as a new sump pump to protect the basement against water intrusion.
DBS Foreman Joe Harris and his crew worked on the interior waterproofing project. The crew began by breaking out concrete to create a trench around the foundation footing. Our WaterGuard® drain system was put into place and will effectively capture wall and floor seepage. Water collected in the drain is directed to a new TripleSafe™ sump pump with battery back-up. As you can see in the photos, our crew was able to navigate the church's circular foundation.
This church congregation can once again use the communal spaces in the lower level without the worry of water and mold!

CleanSpace®, a thick, white poly sheet material was then installed to direct any water leaking from the walls into the drain system below. DBS Foreman Dustin Behning and his crew installed our basement waterproofing products. First, they dug a trench around the perimeter of the basement and carried out the concrete. They also drilled weep holes into the bottom foundation blocks. Often times hollow foundation blocks hold water in the foundation wall. With nowhere to go, it eventually leaks into the basement via the footing or the basement wall itself.
From there, they installed our WaterGuard® drainage system and surrounded it with gravel to encourage proper drainage, and covered it with new concrete. Once the drain system install was complete, they connected it to a TripleSafe™ sump pump. To prevent moisture build-up via the basement walls, DBS installed CleanSpace® vapor barrier. This flexible poly material will collect water and moisture, and direct it into the basement drainage system below.
