Grand Rapids, MN Forest Home Properly Insulated

This home is set in the forest near Grand Rapids, MN. With the average high temperature at 18F and the average low at -3F in January, this home needed more insulation support. When warm air from the home met the cold attic, condensation was forming, and creating ice dams in the winter. After learning about us from an ad on local TV, the home owner contacted DBS for more information on our Dr. Energy Saver® products.

One of our Design Specialists trained in whole-home energy went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the work. After the inspection, it was determined that due to the unique architectural properties in the home, a variety of our insulation's would be needed.

DBS Foreman Orrin Sundberg and his production crew partially removed the existing insulation. They used closed-cell spray foam in several areas, as well as our TerraBlock™ foam insulation infused with graphite. From there, they blew-in around 17 inches of TruSoft™ cellulose insulation, the cathedral-style ceiling, as well as dense-packed insulation in the walls to provide a radiant barrier that would be sure to stand up to even the coldest winter temperatures.

The homeowner was happy with the work done to prevent warm air from escaping the home, and improving the overall energy health of the space.

Dense Packed Cellulose for Cold and Drafty Home in Gilbert, MN

A Gilbert, MN homeowner was in need of a solution to curb high energy bills. They were using a whopping 400 gallons of propane monthly to heat their home throughout the winter. In order to gain insight on a more sustainable solution for year-round living, they contacted DBS.

Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for our insulation services. Henry determined that adding our Tru-Soft cellulose would provide tremendous support in the home's radiant barrier.

Foreman Orrin Sundberg and his crew production crew drilled holes into the drywall in several areas throughout the home to prep for dense packing. Once the insulation was blown into place, our crews add a temporary patch to be replaced with a more permanent wall patch by the homeowner.

Tru-Soft cellulose insulation is fire-resistant and has an R-value much higher than fiberglass, and most rigid foam insulations. This homeowner was thrilled with the work done to improve conditions in their home and lower their sky-high heating bills.

Attic Insulation for Energy Saving in Duluth, MN

Homeowners in Duluth, MN were having issues with ice dams building up during winter months. They contacted us specifically looking for solutions to preventing ice dams from forming in the first place.

Our Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the insulation project. After inspecting the property and conducting an energy audit, it was determined that spray foam insulation and blown-in insulation in the attic were necessary to effectively insulate the space.

DBS Foreman Orrin Sundberg began this insulation job by removing the existing fiberglass batting. His crew then completely air sealed the space with ZypFoam, concentrating on gaps in the building material and spaces surrounding the attic ducts.

They then used our TruSoft™ cellulose, covering the roof deck in 18-inches of soft, yet dense insulation. TruSoft™ has a higher R-value than fiberglass and other cellulose materials, perfect for use in our northern climate. Tru-Soft™ cellulose is extra dense and made from recycled news paper. It's treated to be extremely resistant to heat and fire, making it a great companion for an attic space.

This home is now properly equipped to handle warm Minnesota summers and freezing winters with new attic insulation.

DBS Reduced Ice Dams with Attic Insulation in Grand Rapids, MN

This Grand Rapids, MN home had insufficient insulation in the attic. This lead to drafty conditions in the entire home as well as issues with ice dams in the wintertime. Looking for a permanent solution to make their home more comfortable year-round, they reached out to DBS for a permanent solution.

Our Service Manager Jacob was the Design Specialist for the project. Upon visiting the home, he provided a free, no-obligation estimate. After inspecting the property and conducting an energy audit, it was determined that air sealing and blown-in insulation were necessary to effectively seal and insulate the space.

Nick Woods II and his attic insulation crew began this project by first removing the existing fiberglass insulation. They then sealed the gaps in building material and spaces surrounding the attic ducts with a layer of closed-cell spray foam. From there, they blew-in a heavy layer of our TruSoft™ cellulose into the space. TruSoft™ has a higher R-value than fiberglass and other cellulose materials and will work wonders to protect the space. Finally, they targeted the entrances to the attic and created radiant barriers using SilverGlo™ insulation.

Sealing the attic from the rest of the living space was key in preventing warm air from escaping the home, and improved overall energy efficiency, and health of the space.
