This Duluth, MN resident had been living in this home for over 50 years. They had some cracking in the foundation, but it hadn't really caused any trouble until about 5 years ago, when cracks in the foundation were starting to worsen. Water was leaking into the basement through the cracked foundation and causing damage to their wall panels.
DBS Design Specialist James Miller visited the home and provided a thorough inspection and a free, no-obligation estimate for the bowing basement walls. He proposed our PowerBrace™ Wall Bracing System to permanently stabilize and restore the shifting foundation.
DBS Foreman Zach Royer and his crew first excavated the soil around the home's exterior to prep for a wall straightening procedure. Then they installed 10 PowerBrace I-beams, connecting them to the basement's concrete floor and ceiling joists. Initial tightening by our crew was done to immediately straighten the wall's position. These beams will be tightened over time by our service department with the goal of restoring the wall to its original position.
The homeowner can now rest easy knowing that their home has been thoroughly supported by DBS.

These steel rods will be tightened over time by our service department with the goal of restoring the wall to its original position.
The homeowners were happy with the work done and can now count on a fully stabilized foundation.
This Duluth, MN garage was built in 2005, but was settling significantly. After living in the home for 10 years the homeowners were looking for a permanent solution to the issue. This caused settling in the foundation, creating cracks in the basement floor and allowing water to reach the home. Worried about the issue getting worse, they reached out to DBS for a permanent solution.
DBS Design Specialist Nathan Schroeder is an expert in foundation repair. After visiting the home and providing a free, no-obligation estimate for the work done, he determined that the garage needed assistance from our structural and concrete repair teams.
First, our Foundation Repair Foreman Zach Royer and his crew excavated the exterior of the garage in order to perform a lift procedure. Our team installed 4 push piers total at the exterior base of the garage. Steel brackets are first attached to the foundation footing and then galvanized steel piers are hydraulicaly driven into the ground to weight-bearing soils. The weight of the structure is then transferred to the competent soil.
When spring comes, our Concrete Repair production crew will be able to finish leveling the garage slab and driveway. They will fill any voids cause by sediment washout with PolyLevel, our 2-part expanding foam designed to lift and level sinking concrete.
The homeowners were happy with the work done and can now depend on a safe and comfortable home for years to come.
Homeowners in Duluth, MN reached out to DBS for help insulation their partially finished basement. Their goal was to be able to use the space comfortably year-round.
A Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate. They used a thermal camera to measure heat loss and air flow, finding the rim joists to be a problematic area. The solution was to install a 3" inch layer of closed-cell spray foam to insulate the rim joists. This creates an airtight connection between the rim joist and exterior, eliminating outdoor air from entering the home.
A DBS Foreman and their production crew applied the 2-part expanding spray foam, sealing and insulating the rim joists from cold outside air. This finished basement room is now comfortable year-round!
