Owners of this home in Duluth, MN wanted to move ahead with plans to finish their basement. But after having consistent water intrusion from their foundation walls, they knew they needed a permanent solution. After learning about our DBS from the Duluth Home Show, the owners contacted us to schedule a free, no-obligation solution.
DBS Design Specialist Rich Johnsen is our expert in basement waterproofing and visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. After thoroughly inspecting the leaky basement, he discovered some bowing and cracks in the foundation walls that was contributing to the leaking.
DBS Foreman Nick Burley and his crew installed a PowerBrace™ Wall Bracing System made up of 4 steel beams. Attached to the ceiling joists and concrete footing, these beams will be tightened over time to restore the wall to its original position.
From there, the DBS waterproofing crew lead by Taylor Allen installed our basement waterproofing products. First, they dug a trench along the perimeter of two basement walls and carried out the concrete. From there, they installed our WaterGuard® drainage system and surrounded it with gravel to encourage proper drainage. Once the drain system install was complete, they connected it to a brand new TripleSafe™ sump pump.
The homeowners now have a solid solution to keep water out of the basement, and they can continue with their basement finishing plans.

DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo visited the home, documented the foundation crack on the outside of the home and inspected the crawl space to find the root of the issue. The dirt crawl space was unsealed and the main supports we sinking. In order to provide a permanent solution for this homeowner, both our foundation repair and crawl space encapsulation crews were needed.
DBS Foreman Taylor and his crew first performed the crawl space foundation work. They installed 10 feet of horizontal steel support beams parallel to the dirt crawl space. Our team installed a total of 6 SmartJack® telescoping vertical beams beneath the new support beam and beneath the home's existing supports.
After the crawl space foundation repair was complete, our team began the crawl space encapsulation work. DBS Foreman Orrin Sundberg lead his crew in the installation of a total encapsulation system: a layer of drainage matting applied directly to the crawl space floor, then a layer of TerraBlock™ insulation, and finally a vapor barrier to seal the space. They also applied spray foam to the rim joists to property seal the space from cold air.

The SmartJack® beams are anchored to the ceiling joists and supplemental support beams and held in place by steel footings.
