The new owners of this Duluth, MN home were experiencing issues with cold floors and were dreading high energy bills in the wintertime. They had only been living there for a few weeks when they decided to remove the faulty insulation and make a call to DBS in hopes of finding a more energy-efficient solution
Design Specialist Austin Burley visited the property to conduct a free no-obligation estimate for the owners. After a thorough inspection, Austin recommended the 3-layer Crawl Space Encapsulation service offered by DBS.
Foreman Nick Woods led the installation of this project with the help of a crew. First, a layer of dimpled drainage matting was laid down to aid the flow of water. A layer of TerraBlock™ insulation was installed over the matting to block cold air from leaking up into the crawl space from the ground. The previous two layers were sealed with a layer of CleanSpace® to complete the encapsulation process and waterproof the space. The vertical walls in the crawl space were covered with SilverGlo™ rigid foam insulation to prevent frost build-up. Finally, they air-sealed the remaining leak points in the crawl space with ZypFoam™ to prevent air from escaping to the first level as well as air entering from outside.
Now that the installation of the 3-layer crawl space encapsulation system is complete, the owners will experience warmer floors and lower energy bills without ever needing to replace any doors or windows!

A homeowner in Duluth, MN had a dirt crawl space under their home that was causing issues. They had a vapor barrier partially laid down in the space by another contractor. But they noted that temperature and humidity fluctuations were still present and this was affecting the main level of their home. To learn more about what steps were needed to properly insulate the home, they reached out to us about our Dr. Energy Saver® services after learning about our company in the local newspaper.
A Design Specialist trained in energy-saving solutions visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. A DBS foreman and crew secured the existing vapor barrier in the crawl space.
